How to Prep Your Skin So Your Makeup Lasts All Day (and Night)
Great makeup starts before the first brush touches your face. Whether it's a wedding, a birthday, a photoshoot or a night out, a little preparation helps your glam look smooth and stay put for hours.
The week before
- Drink water and moisturise every day. Hydrated skin holds makeup better and looks more radiant.
- Don't try new skincare. A new product right before an event is a risk for breakouts or irritation.
- Exfoliate gently 2 to 3 days before, not the day of, so your skin is smooth but not sensitive.
The day of
- Come with a clean, moisturised face, with no heavy oils or makeup.
- Wear a button-up or zip top so you don't have to pull anything over your finished look.
- Bring your lipstick or gloss for touch-ups later.
During your event
- Blot, don't wipe. Press a blotting paper or tissue on shiny areas instead of rubbing.
- Try not to touch your face. It moves product around and adds oil.
- Reapply lip colour after eating or drinking.
